How to Share Your Event Progress on Social Media with a Rich Preview

Turn a plain link into a card that shows the event name, percentage and days left, directly in the feed on X, LinkedIn, Facebook and WhatsApp.

A bare link gets scrolled past. A link that shows a picture, a name and “68% complete” gets read. Every EventCompletion page generates that card for you.

What the preview shows

When you share an event link, social networks fetch an image for it. For each event we render one automatically:

  • the event name and its dates
  • the current percentage, with a progress bar
  • days elapsed, days left and total days
  • your cover image, if you added one

You do not design anything and you do not upload a separate image.

Keeping the numbers fresh

The card is regenerated regularly while an event is running, so a link shared in the morning does not show last week’s numbers. Finished events are stored as they are, because their numbers no longer change.

One thing to know: networks keep their own copy of a preview. If you share the same link again days later and still see an old card, that is the platform’s cache, not the page. Most networks offer a debugger or a re-scrape option to refresh it.

Share in one click

On any event page, the Share section has:

  1. Copy link for messages and emails
  2. X, Facebook, LinkedIn and WhatsApp buttons that open the share dialog with the title and link filled in
  3. Embed to place the page on your own site or in Notion

Make the preview work harder

  • Add a cover image. Use a landscape or square picture with a clear subject.
  • Write a short, specific name. Long names get truncated in feeds. “Summer Reading Challenge” beats “Our big summer reading challenge for the whole family 2026”.
  • Share at milestones. 25%, 50%, 75% and the last week are natural moments to post again with the same link.
  • Add one line of context. Tell people why they should follow along.

Week 6 of our spring launch is done. We are 50% of the way there, and the page updates itself. Follow along: your-event-link
